Premier Urges Nova Scotians to Remember

first_imgPremier John Hamm is urging all Nova Scotians to take a fewmoments on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to remember the men and women whohave died or suffered in wars and conflicts and all those whohave served our country in uniform. “It is our duty as Nova Scotians and as Canadians to ensure thatthe sacrifices made to preserve our freedom and democracy arenever forgotten,” said the premier. “I hope that this Nov. 11,the people of our province will make an effort to visit a localcenotaph or to spend a few moments in thanks for the peaceful wayof life we enjoy here in Nova Scotia.” Over the past number of years, the Nova Scotia government hasundertaken several initiatives to support individuals who haveserved their country. To ensure that children value thecontribution of veterans, government has made Canadian history arequirement for graduation from high school. In 2000, Highway 102from Fall River to Truro was named the Veterans Memorial Highway.And, in February 2003, government began issuing veterans’ licenseplates to those who have served in uniform. “We can never repay the sacrifices that many men and women havemade in order that our way of life might be protected,” saidPremier Hamm. “But we can remember.” -30-last_img read more
