(Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Tomorrow, Notre Dame Stadium will host Champions League winner Liverpool F.C. in an exhibition match against another European power, Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke about the opportunity earlier today. On a positive note, Klopp sounded blown away by the facilities, saying they would be unparalleled when measured up against European soccer clubs’ training grounds. He also added that he would have loved to attend the prestigious university.Jurgen Klopp: “Notre Dame is wow. No club in the world has facilities like University of Notre Dame. It’s not possible.“I’d love to have studied here. I’m not sure what.”— Pete Sampson (@PeteSampson_) July 18, 2019 However, as big of a fan as Klopp is of Notre Dame’s facilities and the campus itself, he was decidedly less complimentary about the stadium. When asked about Notre Dame Stadium, Klopp didn’t keep it PC.Klopp asked what he thinks of Notre Dame Stadium.”Do you want the honest answer or the polite? Everything is better over here….apart from the stadium.”#LFC— Neil Jones (@neiljonesgoal) July 18, 2019Judging by further tweets from Jones and Sampson, it sounds like Klopp might not love the actual playing surface for tomorrow’s match. Real grass is being laid over Notre Dame’s artificial turf, so the pitch might be a bit wonky compared to what he’s used to in Europe.Notre Dame fans probably won’t like to hear Klopp’s comments about the stadium, but if the modified grass field really is the issue, he might have some allies in the Fighting Irish fan base. There are many traditionalist ND fans who wish the school never went away from its original natural grass surface in the first place.last_img read more
