TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS–Road Improvements for CumberlandCounty Better roads are coming for residents of Cumberland County. A tender call has recently been announced to repave about 10kilometres of Trunk 6 from the town line at Amherst east toRipley Loop. “This project is part of our investment in building better roadsfor the people of Nova Scotia,” said Ron Russell, Minister ofTransportation and Public Works. “Repaving Trunk 6 will mean astronger road for residents and tourists.” The tender closes Friday, June 4 and work is expected to becompleted by Sept. 30. This announcement follows a $1.4-million commitment to repavepart of Route 209, also in Cumberland County. The Department of Transportation and Public Works highwaysdivision manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in NovaScotia. It maintains an inventory of 4,100 bridges and operatesseven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from districtoffices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
